Suspension Seats - Click any image below for more information.

Suspension seats use a combination of shock absorbers, springs, deforming materials and dampers to decellerate vertical forces. There are two distinct seating positions - 'feet on the deck' and 'feet off the deck'. Technology ranges from 'passive suspension' systems to innovative 'semi-active suspension' systems that react to changing conditions. The traditional style of seating in many sport fishing boats is a single seat fitted to a vertical post or pedestal, the difference now is the addition of a shock absorber in the pedestal. Low racing style seats, sometimes used with foot throttles, have limited use on military or commercial craft. Bench or multiple seating is not selected for extreme operations. Open boat or external seating components are manufactured from marine grade metals, closed cell foams and materials that resist exposure to the elements.
